He worked in Germany in the Bayerische Staatsoper of Munich with conductors R. Abbado (Die Liebe zu den drei Orangen<\/em>), M. Boder (Ubu rex, The Castle<\/em>) and P. Schneider; in Leipzig he played Rodolfo, Weimar Belmonte; L\u00fcbeck, Rodolfo, and Gelsenkirchen, Rodolfo, Narraboth (Salom\u00e9<\/em>) and Arturo (Lucia<\/em>), where received the Public\u2019s Prize as the best singer of the 1997-8 season. In Wuppertal he played \u00a0Alfredo, Macduff, the Italian Singer (Der Rosenkavalier<\/em>) and Beppe, and in Hannover Don Ottavio, Tom Rakewell (Rake\u2019s Progress<\/em>), Pinkerton, Tibalt, Belmont nd Tamino. He also worked in the G\u00e4rtnerplatztheater and the Prinzregententheater in Munich, in the theatres of Regensburg, Oldenburg, Ingolstadt and Germering, and in various summer festivals; as well as in the Opera House in Budapest, in the Opera of Toulon (Paolino<\/strong> in Il Matrimonio Segreto<\/em>), in the Kolarak Saal in Belgrade (An die Freude, Carmina Burana<\/em>) and at La Filature in Mulhouse, Alsace (in Mendelssohn\u2019s Elias<\/em>). He\u00a0 sang the role of Ferrando<\/strong> in Cos\u00ed <\/em>with Enrique Mazzola at the Montepulciano Festival, Gafforio<\/strong> in Paisiello\u2019s Il Re Teodoro<\/em> in the Festival of Radio France at Montpellier (Koering and Mazzola) and the role of Narete<\/strong> in Vivaldi\u2019s La Fida Ninfa<\/em> with the Ensemble Matheus at the XXV Festival de Musique Barroque \u00e0 Ambronnay with Spinosi.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In Madrid he sang in the Teatro Real with Placido Domingo, and in the Teatro de la Zarzuela (Miguel<\/strong> in La del Soto del Parral<\/em>) under the direction of Miguel Roa, to great acclaim from both the public and the critics. He appeared in the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, in the Gran Teatro in Cordoba (Il<\/strong> Duca<\/strong> in Rigoletto<\/em>), in the Teatro Principal and Auditorium of Palma in Mallorca (Fernando<\/strong> in Goyescas<\/em>), in the Teatro Calder\u00f3n in Valladolid (Fernando<\/strong> in Do\u00f1a Francisquita<\/em>), in the Teatro Villamarta in Jerez (Il Duca<\/strong> in Rigoletto<\/em>), and in the Auditorium of La Coru\u00f1a under the direction of conductor V.P.P\u00e9rez where he sang Shostakovich\u2019s Forest Song<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n Montero was acclaimed by the critics as the successor of Gayarre for his interpretation of Diego<\/strong> Marsilla<\/strong> in the new production of the opera Los Amantes de Teruel <\/em>in the Teatro Palacio Vald\u00e9s in Avil\u00e9s, with subsequent performances in Gij\u00f3n, Bilbao, San Sebasti\u00e1n, Santander, Malaga, Salamanca and Palma de Mallorca.<\/span><\/p>\n He was Clem<\/strong> in Benjamin Britten\u2019s opera\u00a0 The Little Sweep<\/em> at the Teatro Real in Madrid, and Dupont<\/strong> in the zarzuela Black el Payaso<\/em> at the Teatro Espa\u00f1ol in Madrid and\u00a0 the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao. He sang the role of Ottavio<\/strong> in Giuditta<\/em> \u00a0by L\u00e8har at the Operetten Metropole \u00a0in Baden bei Wien, and the role of Altoum in Turandot<\/em> at the Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao.<\/span><\/p>\n Jose Manuel Montero\u2019s oratorical repertoire includes works such as Haydn\u2019s The Creation<\/em>, Frank Martin\u2019s Golgotha<\/em>, Mendelssohn\u2019s Elias<\/em>, Dvorak\u2019s Stabat Mater<\/em> and Beethoven\u2019s Missa Solemnis<\/em> and An die Freude<\/em>. \u00a0Recently his work in this genre has included\u00a0 the \u00a0Requiem<\/em> and Mass in C minor<\/em> by Mozart, Bach\u2019s St John Passion<\/em>, \u00a0Mahler\u2019s \u00a0Song of the Earth<\/em> and Orff\u2019s Carmina Burana<\/em> . Song cycles have also featured in his activities, like Schubert\u2019s\u00a0 Die Winterreise<\/em>, Schumann\u2019s Dichterliebe <\/em>and Liederkreis op 39, <\/em>Brahms\u2019s Magelone, <\/em>Mahler\u2019s Des knaben Wunderhorn<\/em>,\u00a0 Krenek\u2019s Reisebuch <\/em>or Jan\u00e1cek\u2019s Diary of one who vanished.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Montero remains extremely busy and very much in demand. In 2010-12 he has performed the role of\u00a0 Kochkarev<\/strong> in Mussorgsky\u2019s opera The Wedding<\/em> at the Teatro Real, in Madrid,\u00a0 and at the festivals of Segovia and Salamanca; the role of Clem<\/strong> in The Little Sweep<\/em> at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao and Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo; the role of Jan<\/strong> in The Diary of One who Vanished<\/em> by Jan\u00e1cek at the Teatro Real, Sevilla and Bilbao; the role of Paris<\/strong> in the operetta La Belle Hel\u00e9ne<\/em> by Offenbach in Germany, as well as Erik<\/strong> and Der Steuermann<\/strong> in two productions of Wagner\u2019s \u00a0The Flying Dutchman<\/em> in Spain and Germany and Alfredo<\/strong> in La Traviata<\/em>.\u00a0 He has recorded Die Winterreise<\/em> with Juan Antonio \u00c1lvarez Parejo, and performed Schumann\u2019s Dichterliebe<\/em> and Liederkreis (Op. 39)<\/em> in Madrid. This season he has appeared extensively in Madrid, playing Enrique<\/strong> in the zarzuela El Estreno de una Artista<\/em> at the Teatro de la Zarzuela and Teatro Campoamor, Gustavo<\/strong> in the zarzuela Los Gavilanes<\/em> at the Auditorio Nacional, and works by Liszt and Mahler at the Festival \u2018Cl\u00e1sicos en Verano\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n In his latest season Jose Montero performed in Beethoven\u2019s Symphony No 9<\/em> at the Auditorio Nacional\u00a0 in Madrid, taking the role of Lumir<\/strong> in Sarka <\/em>by Jan\u00e1cek at the Teatro de la Maestranza, in Sevilla, the role of Erik <\/strong>in The Flying Dutchman <\/em>in Germany and the role of Guido<\/strong> in Zemlinsky\u2019s opera Eine Florentinische Trag\u00f6die <\/em>\u00a0at the Teatro P\u00e9rez Gald\u00f3s in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.<\/span><\/p>\n In recent months he sang the role of Erik <\/strong>again, and the role of Don Jos\u00e9 <\/strong>in Carmen <\/em>from Bizet at the Teatro Romano de M\u00e9rida, the role of Le prince charmant <\/strong>in Cendrillon, <\/em>from P. Viardot, in Madrid and the Festival de Santander, the zarzuela Black el Payaso<\/em> at the Teatro de la Zarzuelal in Madrid \u00a0and at the Festival de Granada, the role of Narraboth <\/strong>in Salome, <\/em>from R.
